Danilo Kovač, a history and Latin teacher at Banja Luka Gymnasium and an assistant professor at the Faculty of Philosophy in Banja Luka, has been named one of the 50 best teachers in the world.
In Dubai, he was awarded the title of Ambassador of the Global Teacher Prize.
With this recognition, Kovač has become the only teacher from Republika Srpska and the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina to receive this prestigious global award. Often referred to as the "Nobel Prize for Teachers," this accolade symbolizes excellence in education and acknowledges outstanding achievements in shaping future generations.
Being an ambassador of this award means promoting the importance of education and the teaching profession worldwide.
Additionally, Kovač is one of the few ambassadors of the Global Teacher Prize from this region, as Montenegro and Croatia have yet to have their representatives, unlike Serbia and North Macedonia.
The organizers of this prestigious award are the Varkey Foundation and UNESCO, which granted the main prize of one million dollars to Mansour Al Mansour from Saudi Arabia.
Kovač told SRNA that teachers are often not perceived as professionally accomplished individuals capable of successful careers, and through his own example, he aimed to challenge such stereotypes associated with this noble profession.
"I had the honor and pleasure of congratulating Mansour Al Mansour, who was named the best teacher in the world. Among other things, Mansour has launched numerous humanitarian initiatives for orphans, prisoners, and impoverished families. He has written 20 books on education, and I believe the award has gone to the right hands," Kovač stated.
He expressed gratitude to the excellent "Step by Step" organization, which nominated him for the Global Teacher Prize, as well as to the Association of the Best Teachers of Former Yugoslavia, which continues to promote the teaching profession across the region.
Extending his greetings for the Sretenje holiday, Kovač also highlighted the ongoing competition for the Serbian Teacher Award "Prosvetitelj," open to teachers from Serbia, Republika Srpska, Montenegro, as well as all educators worldwide who conduct classes in the Serbian language.
