The Association of Banks of Bosnia and Herzegovina (UBBiH) has submitted a formal request to Apple to introduce Apple Pay in Bosnia and Herzegovina, according to the association’s director, Edis Ražanica, in a statement to Klix.ba.
Currently, Bosnia and Herzegovina, along with North Macedonia and Albania, are the only European countries where this service is unavailable. Ražanica emphasized the significant demand for Apple Pay among banking clients in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Apple is expected to respond to the association’s request, which will then pave the way for discussions about the conditions for implementing the service. These discussions will primarily focus on the technical aspects of the system.
While Ražanica could not provide a definitive timeline for when Apple Pay might become available, he estimated that the service could be introduced as early as next year.
What Is Apple Pay?
Apple pay is a digital wallet that allows users to make payments through Apple devices. It securely stores payment information, such as debit or credit card details, bank account data, or cryptocurrency accounts, on the device.
With a digital wallet, users no longer need to carry physical bank cards or cash. Payments can be made by simply holding a mobile device near a payment terminal.
Apple Pay is one of the most recognized digital wallets globally. Although it has not yet been introduced in Bosnia and Herzegovina, other digital wallets are already available in the country.
