According to the local news portal TrebinjeLive.info, MT Projekt, widely associated with Lidl across the region, has reportedly paid millions of convertible marks to acquire numerous parcels of land in Trebinje. So far, the company has secured at least 12,950 square meters.

However, the acquisition of land is not yet fully completed. One of the key parcels, spanning 1,690 square meters, is owned by Safir, a company from Gacko. The owner of Safir is Rajko Papović, a prominent figure who serves as the President of the Gacko Municipal Assembly, an advisor to Republika Srpska President Milorad Dodik, and the leader of Prva SDS. If MT Projekt successfully acquires this parcel, the total land area for Lidl's construction in Trebinje would amount to approximately 14,600 square meters—significantly larger than the initially planned 10,120 square meters.

According to unofficial reports, Lidl intends to begin construction in the first half of 2025, with the opening of the store anticipated in 2026.

The Trebinje City Assembly had earlier approved amendments to the regulatory plan "Southern City Exit", facilitating Lidl’s development plans.

TrebinjeLive.info reports that the future Lidl store in Trebinje will span 2,456 square meters and feature 121 parking spaces, marking a significant addition to the city’s commercial infrastructure.
