RIBNIK: UNION OF THREE ABUNDANT KARST SPRINGS

The Ribnik River is formed by the confluence of three abundant karst springs, creating a strong water flow immediately after merging. The source zone is surrounded by the slopes of nearby hills, and the river valley of one of the cleanest rivers in Europe creates an idyllic natural environment.

RIBNIK: UNION OF THREE ABUNDANT KARST SPRINGS

The spring is located about three kilometers from the center of the municipality of Ribnik. Due to the exceptional water quality, fish farming ponds were built near the springs during the Yugoslav era, which are still in operation today.

The excellent water quality, preserved nature, and relatively shallow water that supports the development and growth of aquatic flora make it an ideal habitat for salmonid fish species. Predominant species include grayling, brown trout, and rainbow trout.

With its protection, management, and strict fishing regulations, Ribnik has become one of the most popular fly fishing destinations in Europe. The development of infrastructure, accommodation, and hospitality facilities has attracted an increasing number of tourists.

The source zone itself is not developed for tourism. There are walking and recreational trails, and it is mainly visited by locals as a picnic spot during the summer.
