Tourism overnight stays across Europe have reached record numbers, showing a significant increase compared to the previous two years. Almost all European Union countries have experienced a rise in overnight stays, highlighting the sector's strong recovery.
Luxembourg recorded the highest growth, followed by Malta and Latvia, while a slight decline was noted in France and Belgium.
In 2024, the total number of overnight stays in tourist accommodations across the EU reached 2.99 billion, marking an increase of 53.4 million or 2% compared to the previous year.
According to Eurostat, the main driver of this growth was the increase in overnight stays by foreign visitors, while domestic tourism experienced a modest decline.
Hotels accounted for the majority of overnight stays, with 1.9 billion stays, representing 63% of the total. Vacation apartments and other private short-term rentals followed with 711 million stays, making up 24% of the total. Campsites recorded 396 million overnight stays, accounting for 13% of the total.
