Trebinje, the southernmost city of Republika Srpska, has marked a historic milestone in its tourism sector, recording over 230,000 overnight stays in 2024, the highest figure ever achieved.
The Tourist Organization of Trebinje proudly announced this achievement, stating, “Following the completion of statistical data collection and analysis, we can confidently say that 2024 will be remembered as a golden year in Trebinje’s tourism history, setting a benchmark for success since the tracking of tourism began.”
In 2024, a total of 230,710 registered overnight stays were recorded, representing a remarkable 14.74% increase compared to the previous record set in 2023. Domestic tourists accounted for 59,745 overnight stays (approximately 26% of the total), while international tourists contributed 170,965 overnight stays (about 74% of the total).
Among international visitors, the largest share of overnight stays came from tourists from:
Serbia (51%),
Turkey (17%),
Montenegro (7%),
Croatia (3%),
China (3%), and
Greece (2%).
GLOBAL REACH AND POPULAR DESTINATIONS
Trebinje welcomed tourists from 74 countries, with 20,137 visitors stopping by the Tourist Information Center in 2024. Most international visitors came from Serbia, Montenegro, Italy, China, France, and Germany.
Popular attractions included historic landmarks such as monasteries, churches, monuments, the Old Town (Kastel) with its mosques, the Herzegovina Museum, and the iconic Perović (Arslanagić) Bridge. Wine cellars and traditional restaurants also enjoyed significant attention, as tourists embraced the city’s renowned cuisine and wine offerings.
SUCCESS OF THE “CITY OF THE SUN” COMPLEX
The "City of the Sun" sports and tourism complex set a new record for visits. With new facilities and numerous events, it significantly enriched Trebinje’s tourism offerings and contributed to the overall rise in visitor numbers and overnight stays.
GROWING COMPETITION AND IMPROVED SERVICES
The data also highlights an increase in the number of businesses and individuals providing tourism-related services. This growth has led to greater competition, ultimately improving the quality of services offered to visitors.
